BEVERLY  BERGER

Bev spent her honeymoon in Miami, Florida which was her first visit to the Sunshine State. She fell in love with Florida and vowed that some day she would return as a permanent resident. That day finally came in October 2005. Her words to her husband Bill were, “I’ve spent my last winter in Philadelphia”. She packed up her belongings and left for Delray Beach. Of course she never realized the devastation that Hurricane Wilma had wrought. So, on the advice of the president of the computer club, who she had never met, detoured to Tampa and spent time with her daughter and two beautiful grandchildren.

“These four years have been the best of our lives.” New found friends have become surrogate family and most holidays are spent with them. Bev’s son Jeffrey, who chose San Diego to call home, calls daily and visits as often as possible. California is not for retirees, so plans to move to Florida are in his future.

While living in Philadelphia and raising her family, Bev became active in the Home & School Association and was twice elected President during the school crises that arose in the sixties and seventies. In the early 1980’s, a group that called themselves the Messianic Alliance of America, moved into the quiet neighborhood of families and began their efforts at converting the young and old to a brand of Christianity known as the Jews for Jesus. Fearing that without opposition, families would face heartbreak and grief, she began a career of educating and visibly opposing the cult. After ten years of doing battle, the Jewish Federation took on the battle and started publicizing the cult activities. That gave Bev some time to return to the work world. She had worked for doctor’s for many years but felt her true calling was in the world of fine jewelry. Lord and Taylor grabbed her since they knew that a good portion of her salary would return to them in the form of purchases.

Bev’s favorite hobbies include: shopping (not buying), Table Tennis, (she is the President of the Huntington Lakes Table Tennis Club), reading good mysteries, knitting, playing Miniature Golf on the computer (10 holes in one), corresponding secretary of Section One and most important of all…making dinner reservations.

Married for fifty years to the same man, she has mastered the art of letting her husband Bill have the last words, which are “Yes Dear”.

Her husband "Bill" is the Vice President of the Computer Club.  Before long we hope to entice Beverly into
an active role as well.
